The Eastern Redcedar (Redcedars are actually junipers) is a medium-sized evergreen tree that is drought and heat-tolerant. Typically, the trunk is straight and the tree has a pointed, dense, conical crown that may be varied or irregular, depending on local conditions. Its deep roots and small leaf surface make it highly drought-tolerant. It is the primary species in many windbreaks. The foliage is bright green to dark green. Hillspire is an improved variety of Eastern Redcedar that holds its green color through the winter better than wild redcedars.
